Shree Naval P Baliwalla Scientific Session

Shree Naval P Baliwalla Scientific Session

Mr.Naval P Baliwalla was among the pioneers in Indian Optometry. He graduated as the Fellow of the British College Ophthalmic Optics, in year 1949. He came back to India armed with the idea of Optometry and with a dream to make optometry an established profession. He was among the pioneers to introduce contact lenses and prescription of low vision aids for vision correction.

Everyone knows Mr.Naval Baliwalla, as a humble, modest and warm person. Few know the many laurels he has to his reputation. Baliwalla and Homi have been Optometrists to the Governors of Mumbai since the pre-independence days. Dr.Rajendra Prasad, our first President, made his glasses prescribed by Mr. Naval Baliwalla.

During one of his visits to England, the Queen’s Optometrist examined his eyes and prescribed him another pair glasses. Dr. Rajendra Prasad after using them stated that he was apparently happier with the glasses made for him by Mr. Naval Baliwalla. Every year we take an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of our founder by the way of Shree Naval. P. Baliwalla Scientific session.

Lotus College celebrated its Ninth Shree Naval P. Baliwalla Scientific session on March 2, 2018. The session was well attended by our present undergraduates, interns, and faculty from ICO France. There were 7 oral presentations and 12 posters in all by both Indian and French students.
