Low Vision Fellowship:

 

Background:

Late Mr. Naval P. Baliwalla, was an optometrist qualified in the UK. He was the pioneer to establish a Low vision practice in India. He designed and manufactured Low vision devices which were affordable to the average Indian. This centre is a tribute to his dedication to the cause of Low vision. Shree Naval P. Baliwalla Centre for Vision Rehabilitation, is tertiary level centre as per WHO norms

 

Overview of the activities of the Department:

 

  • Runs a full-fledged low vision clinic which offers services to children and adults.
  • Continuous screening of all the blind schools across Mumbai for low vision assessment and dispensing devices.
  • A valued partner with the National Association of the Blind
  • Official Low vision service centre for Sarva Shikha Abhayan, Mumbai.
  • Provides Low vision services to differently able children.
  • Conducts Low vision training programs for special educators and practicing Optometrists.
  • Authorised to certify Players for Blind Cricket, India.

Pediatric Optometry Fellowship

 

Instruction In charge:

M.Optom/PhD/Pediatric Ophthalmologist.

 

Course Duration:

6 months

 

1. Course Description:

 

  • Assessment of visual functions in infants and special populations
  • Limitations of current techniques, including visual evoked potentials, forced choice preferential looking and Optokinetic Nystagmus.
  • Anatomical and functional development of the human visual system
  • Visual development under normal and abnormal conditions: the effect of oculo-visual abnormality on development of different visual functions.
